Holiday weekend travels will be a little more difficult in the North Hills and Moon as a result of road work. Here are the details.

  • McKnight Road – Traffic will shift again Friday on McKnight Road as Lindy Paving works to finish a $27 million project that stretches from Pittsburgh’s North Side to Perrymont Road in McCandless this summer. Preparatory work will begin at 9 a.m. Friday with traffic being shifted to the outside lanes while crews install barriers and paint lines for the crossover. When that is done, northbound traffic will be shifted to the southbound lanes between Brookview Lane and Municipal Drive at the Babcock Boulevard interchange. That configuration, which will provide one 12-foot lane in each direction, will remain in place until early July. The northbound McKnight offramp to Babcock also will be closed during this work, but other ramps will remain open. Also, beginning Monday, southbound McKnight will be reduced to one lane between Perrymont Road and Babcock Boulevard from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. through April 28 for milling and paving.
  • Hassem Road – This road in Moon will have traffic restrictions between Stillwood Drive and Philomena Drive from Friday through May 2 for work on stormwater sewers. Weekday work will occur from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. with the following restrictions: Friday, single-lane alternating traffic; Monday, full closure; Tuesday through May 2, single-lane alternating traffic. Crews from Cronin Enterprises will conduct stormwater structure and pipe installation work.  Traffic will be detoured via Charlton Heights Road, Claridge Road and Philomena Drive.
