Work on three sections of the Parkway East highlight a busy weekend of ongoing roadwork and a couple of new projects. Here’s the rundown:
- Parkway East 1 – Time for another change in traffic patterns as part of the $70.1 million project to improve the highway between Churchill and the Monroeville exit at Route 48. This time, traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction between the bridge over Leeks Run/Old William Penn Highway and the Monroeville exit 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday. When that work is down, travel will be shifted to the two inner lanes of the highway in that area until late November.
- Parkway East 2 – Traffic will have an outbound single-lane restriction under the Birmingham Bridge in Oakland from 6 a.m. to noon Saturday. Golden Triangle Construction will do overhang installation during the restriction.
- Parkway East 3 – The highway will have single-lane restrictions in both directions between the Churchill interchange and the Commercial Street Bridge from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday. During the restriction, crews will replace concrete median barriers.
- Parkway West – The ramp from the inbound highway to northbound Interstate 79 will be closed from 6 p.m. to 5 a.m. daily from Friday evening until 5 a.m. June 14. Crews will conduct ramp improvements including barrier work and slab crack sealing on the approaches. Detours will be posted. The $12.6 million project to improve the Parkway West from the Ridge Road interchange to I-79 will continue until January.
- McKnight Road – Traffic will be reduced to one lane from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Saturday and Sunday for paving between Perrymont Road in McCandless and the West View interchange. Motorists will have access to businesses and side streets along the corridor. The $27 million project to improve the highway between Perrymont and Venture Street on Pittsburgh’s North Side should finish before the end of summer.
- Route 30 – An eastbound lane will be closed through late August between Broad Street and Denning Way. CH&D Enterprises will widen the highway, repair shoulders, replace curbs and drill the foundation for new signals. Two lanes will remain open westbound during the work.
- 62nd Street Bridge – The ramp from the 62nd Street Bridge to South Main Street in Etna will be closed from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. on weeknights through mid-June for paving work. Detours will be posted.
- Mossfield Street – The Lawrenceville street will be closed between Schenley Avenue and Mathilda Street from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. Crews will remove overgrowth that reduces access to the sidewalk on Mossfield.
- Curry Hollow Road – All traffic will be shifted to the eastbound lanes beginning at 5 a.m. Friday, resulting on one lane in each direction on the eastbound side of the road. Crews will conduct waterline installation, drainage improvements, concrete road work, driveway adjustments, traffic signal foundation work, wall construction and paving operations through early August. Left-hand turns will be restricted at some intersections, and detours will be posted.
- Route 28 – The highway will have single-lane restrictions in both directions from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday in Tarentum and Harrison. The restrictions will be between the Route 366 and Freeport/Millerstown interchanges while crews do patching work.
