The United Steelworkers union announced Saturday that it is pulling a planned Veterans Day advertisement from the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette in solidarity with the workers who are on unfair labor practice strikes.

On a day that featured an outpouring of support from fellow unions for the striking workers at the PG, the Steelworkers wrote in a tweet announcing the cancelation of the ad that “We have news for the Block family bosses: an injury to one is an injury to all.”

In a letter addressed to PG publisher John Robinson Block, the USW wrote that it would instead “help share the message of how you have not given [the workers] a pay raise in 16 years and shamefully terminated their health insurance.”

“We will take our business elsewhere,” the letter adds.

The USW letter says that the union is proud to instead support the journalists, distribution, production and advertising workers who are out on strike against the PG.

The Downtown Pittsburgh-based USW represents 1.2 million current and retired workers in industries ranging from steel and chemical production to health care and transportation.
