As striking workers at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette prepared Wednesday to give thanks, the Pittsburgh Federation of Teachers stepped up to give the workers another thing to be grateful about.

The PFT said in a tweet Wednesday afternoon that its executive board had unanimously voted to make a donation to the CWA Pittsburgh Striker Fund.

The fund directly benefits PG workers who are on strike. Wednesday was the 37th day of the newsroom workers’ strike and the 49th day of the distribution, production and advertising workers’ strike.

Meanwhile, on the picket line, Scabby the rat made another appearance. Scabby originally joined the PG line on Friday in advance of his shining moment — wedding veil and all — the following day outside Publisher John Robinson Block’s wedding reception.

Atop his large wedge of cheese, Scabby loomed over the North Shore on Wednesday afternoon … until building management called the police to complain that the sidewalk was being obstructed.

So Scabby came down for the day — but he’s not gone forever.

Striking PG workers are set to take Thursday off from picketing to celebrate Thanksgiving before returning to the North Shore on Friday.
