The Allegheny County Health Department shut down Bukeye Stows on Broadway Avenue in Stowe for operating without a health permit and about a dozen other food safety violations.

Some of the problems included food stored in non-food grade containers, evidence of a sewage backup and a rat infestation.

“Too many droppings to count in the basement and smaller amounts in the rear rooms,” the inspection report stated.

“Wastewater on the floor in the basement, and evidence of previous backups,” the report said.

The report indicated the inspection was triggered by a complaint about a “very strong sewage smell coming from the building.”

The store must remain closed until the violations are fixed.
