Supporters of striking Pittsburgh Post-Gazette workers and the Clean Air Council’s efforts concerning February’s train derailment in East Palestine, Ohio, joined forces Saturday for a fundraiser at Bottlerocket Social Hall in the city’s Allentown neighborhood.

Approximately 60 people spent the rainy afternoon listening to music performed by the May Day Marching Band as well as the duo of PG striker Rick Nowlin on baritone saxophone and jazz cabaret singer Phat Man Dee. Strikers Steve Mellon and James “Hutchie” Van Landingham and Clean Air Council’s Jay Walker shared some remarks.

More than $1,200 was raised for the Pittsburgh Striker Fund, which assists the union members on the picket line with financial needs, and the council’s Direct Relief Fund, which is purchasing air purifiers for people impacted by the Norfolk Southern train derailment.
