Traffic will be disrupted Wednesday and Thursday on Pius Street in Pittsburgh’s South Side Slopes neighborhood while the Department of Mobility and Infrastructure installs speed humps to slow down traffic.

Overall, four humps will be installed between South 18th and Brosvillle streets from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. The streets will be open to local traffic, but the city encourages through traffic to find a different route.

Work also will include signs to warn motorists they are approaching the humps and improved safety for pedestrians through crosswalks that feature a high-visibility piano key design.

The city said that data collected in 2021 showed more than half of the vehicles traveling through the neighborhood exceeded the speed limit of 25 miles an hour. That led to a poor crash history that “indicated a strong need” for traffic-calming measures, the city said.
