More road restrictions are on tap this week on local roadways, weather permitting.

Here’s a rundown on key changes:

  • McKnight Road — The busy highway will have an additional area of single-lane restrictions beginning at about 8 p.m. Monday (about 12 hours later than planned). This time, the around-the-clock restrictions will be in both directions between Braunlich Drive and Seibert Road through late May. The work includes concrete repairs and drainage improvements. Those restrictions will be in addition to traffic being reduced to one lane in each direction between East Street in Pittsburgh and Evergreen Road/Babcock Boulevard in Ross between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. daily. The work had been scheduled to be done May 10, but rainy weather has caused delays. Lindy Paving Inc. is the prime contractor for a $27 million project to upgrade the road between Venture Street in Pittsburgh and Perrymount Road in McCandless through spring 2025.
  • North Park — Pedestrian and bicycle lanes will close at 9 a.m. Monday through August on Walter Road between Lake Shore Drive and the tennis court. The parking lot and northbound shoulder in that area also will be closed during work to upgrade Pine Creek North Branch Bridge No. 3. Pedestrians and cyclists will be able to cross the bridge using the shoulder on the west side of the roadway farthest from North Park Lake. The bridge work by Pugliano Construction Co. Inc. will include replacing two concrete barriers and guide rail, cement repairs, approach roadway work, rock replacement and pavement markings.
  • Bus Rapid Transit — Construction on Pittsburgh Regional Transit’s University Line in Downtown Pittsburgh will return to Sixth Avenue in Downtown Pittsburgh on Monday. This time, work will reduce traffic to one lane in each direction through the fall while crews install the foundations and electrical conduit for traffic signals; replace the sidewalk, roadway and granite curbs; and install 60-foot bus shelters, accessible ramps and traffic signals. They had moved water and sewer lines at the site over the winter. The work is all part of PRT’s $291 million University Line, which will operate buses on dedicated lanes on Forbes and Fifth avenues between Downtown and Oakland.
