Major changes are coming in 2027 to two sections of Washington Pike, one in Collier and the other in South Fayette.

In Collier, preliminary plans call for widening Route 50/Washington Pike in the area around Great Southern Shopping Center and the interchange with Interstate 79. In South Fayette, traffic lights and turning lanes will be added at Washington Pike’s intersections with Alpine and Boyce roads.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation will hold informational meetings at 5:30 p.m. Monday on the Collier project at Chartiers Valley Middle School, 50 Thoms Run Road, Bridgeville, and on the South Fayette project at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at Upper St. Clair Community and Recreation Center, 1551 Mayview Road.

In Collier, officials will outline plans to widen Washington Pike in four areas: between Mayer Street and the shopping center; between Vanadium road and the ramps at I-79 to extend the left-turn lane to Vanadium and add dual left-turn lanes to I-79; the northbound entrance ramp to I-79; and the ramps between I-79 and Thoms Run Road.

The department will make a presentation and take questions about the project, where work is expected to last until fall 2028. Anyone who needs documents in another language, translation at the meeting, transportation or other special services should contact PennDOT project manager Zachary Patterson at zapatterso@pa.gov.

At Tuesday’s meeting, PennDOT officials will discuss the preliminary plans for work in South Fayette. In addition to traffic lights at Alpine and Boyce, the project will widen the roads to provide left-turn lanes from Washington Pike to Alpine and Boyce and add a left-turn lane from Boyce onto Washington.

It also will include fully reconstructing the roadway, updating features to meet current design and safety standards, drainage and guiderail improvements, signs, lights and pavement markings.

That project also is set for 2027, but it’s not clear yet how long work will last.

Anyone who needs documents in another language, translation at the meeting, transportation or other special services for the South Fayette meeting should contact PennDOT project manager Erik Porter at eporter@pa.gov.
