If the weather holds out, there will be some major traffic restrictions this weekend, beginning Friday evening. Here’s the rundown:
- Interstate 79 – Traffic southbound will be limited this weekend to one lane on the shoulder between Route 60 Moon Run/Crafton and Interstate 376 Airport/Pittsburgh interchanges in Kennedy and Robinson. From 7 p.m. Friday through 6 a.m. Monday, crews will be patching concrete on the roadway as part of a $15 million improvement project that also includes guide rail and cable barrier replacement, highway lighting and signing updates, drainage work, pavement markings and improvements to six bridges on the highway, four ramps at the I-376 interchange and six ramps at Route 60. Golden Triangle Construction should finish the project in the next few weeks.
- McKnight Road – Crews will be installing ADA ramps on the southbound lanes between Ivory Avenue and East Street on Pittsburgh’s North Side beginning at 8 a.m. Friday. The work, which will take place on weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. through May 22, will result in single-lane restrictions as needed. The $27 million project by Lindy Paving Inc. to improve the highway from Venture Street on the North Side to Perrymont Road in McCandless should finish in the next few weeks.
- Allegheny River Boulevard – The roadway will be closed from 8 a.m. Saturday through 6 p.m. Sunday between Sandy Creek Road and Washington Boulevard. The closure will allow Pennsylvania Department of Transportation crews to seal the surface it covered with tar and chips last weekend, mark the surface and do other maintenance activities. Detours will be posted.
- Route 28 – The northbound lanes of the highway in Pittsburgh will be reduced to one lane of traffic under the 40th Street Bridge from 6 a.m. to noon Saturday. The restriction will allow Larson Design Group to inspect the bridge.
