Most crews will be working a short week because of the upcoming Memorial Day holiday, but there will still be lots of construction going on. Here are the new projects and changes to expect this week:
- Interstate 79 – The ramp from northbound I-79 to the outbound Parkway West in Robinson will be closed overnight Monday through Thursday this week for joint sealing. The ramp will be closed from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday through 6 a.m. Friday. The work is part of a $15 million project to upgrade I-79 from the I-376 Airport/Pittsburgh interchange to a half-mile north of the Route 60 Moon Run/Crafton interchange.
- Parkway East – One lane of the inbound highway will be closed overnights Monday through Thursday between the Edgewood/Swissvale exit and the Squirrel Hill Tunnel. Work to repair a landslide will begin at 9 each night and end at 6 the next morning.
- Siebert Road – The road in Ross will have a single-lane restriction from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday while crews work on curbs at the intersection of Siebert and McKnight Road. The far left lane that allows traffic to turn left from Siebert onto outbound McKnight will be closed. Motorists will be able to turn left from the center lane. The $27 million project to improve McKnight from Venture Street in Pittsburgh to Perrymont Road in McCandless will finish this summer.
- Interstate 579 – An inbound lane of the highway will be closed from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday between the Veterans Bridge and Bigelow Boulevard for bridge inspection.
- Frankstown Road – The highway will have periodic lane restrictions beginning Monday while crews construct ADA curb ramps and mark crosswalks between Howard Street and Leechburg Road. The work will be done from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily through early September.
- McKees Rocks Bridge – The bridge will have restrictions from 7 p.m. Monday to 6 a.m. Tuesday while crews mill and pave at each end. Traffic will be stopped for 15 minutes or less as needed at the intersection of the bridge and Route 51, including access lanes to and from the bridge, and at the intersection of the bridge and Route 65, including access lanes to and from the bridge. Flaggers will help control traffic. The $38.6 million project to preserve the bridge should finish in the fall.
- Route 28 – Work to install a warning system for drivers going the wrong way on the highway will continue this week at the inbound and outbound ramps from the Harmar/Pennsylvania Turnpike/Route 910 interchange. There will be shoulder restrictions while crews will work from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday to install conduit and other equipment as part of a $4.8 million system of flashing lights and signs. The system will be installed from Anderson Street on Pittsburgh’s North Side to the Harmer interchange.
