Several monthslong road improvement projects will begin this week to highlight roadwork in Allegheny County. Here’s what to expect:
- Penn Hills – Parts of Hulton and Hamil roads will have single-lane alternating traffic beginning Monday and lasting through late November. Work will occur daily from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. on Hulton and Hamil between Saltsburg and Indiana roads and on Hamil between Hamil and Hunter roads. The project includes milling and paving, base repair and drainage improvements.
- Ross – Rochester Road will be closed from 6 a.m. Monday through Aug. 10 while crews replace a culvert between Nocklyn Drive and Reis Run Road/Sewickley Oakmont Road. The $1.1 million project by CH&D Enterprises will include improvements to the approaches to the culvert and pavement markings. Detours will be posted.
- Reserve – Spring Garden Road will close from 9 a.m. Monday until September between Ramage Road and Beech Street. During the closure, crews will build a roadway support structure, improve the roadway and replace curbs. Residents will have access to their homes during the $409,838 project, but detours will be posted and five stops for Pittsburgh Regional Transit’s 7 Spring Garden bus route will be temporarily discontinued, three inbound and two outbound. Buses will be detoured using Mount Troy Road, Ivory Avenue, Evergreen Road, East Street, Mount Pleasant Road and Beech Street. Temporary inbound and outbound stops will be established at Spring Garden Road and Beech Street.
- Oakland – The outbound Parkway East will be closed at the Oakland exit from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday and Tuesday nights. The closure will allow crews to perform bridge jacking, bearing replacement, and pin and hanger replacement on the ramp that passes above the highway. No oversize loads will be allowed to exit at Oakland. Work Tuesday night won’t begin until one hour after the end of the Pirates home game. Detours will be posted. The work is part of the $35.4 million project to upgrade a series of bridges and ramps that connect the Boulevard of the Allies and Parkway East.
- McKees Rocks – Motorists on the McKees Rocks Bridge will face intermittent stoppages of 15 minutes or less from 7 a.m. to 5 pm. Monday through Friday this week. The disruptions will allow crews to clean inlets, paint lines and do other work as part of the $38.6 million bridge preservation project that will finish later this year.
