With more hot summer weather predicted for the city and region this weekend, families looking for some fun this Sunday can head to Allegheny Commons Park for the Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy’s first free Family Day there.

The North Side celebration’s “Hello, Neighbor!” theme highlights community connections and neighborhood pride. The all-ages community festival will be packed with music, crafts and interactive activities, according to a conservancy news release. Families can enjoy balloon animals, airbrush tattoos and kid-friendly performances by Pittsburgh Festival Opera and Azure Concerts Pittsburgh. Activity tables will offer engaging, hands-on experiences, and food will be offered by local vendors.

The event will take place near the George Washington Monument from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. Allegheny Commons Park is located behind the National Aviary.

This inaugural day kicks off the conservancy’s reimagined series, replacing the long-standing Kids Day in Schenley Plaza, according to the release. Conservancy leaders expanded the initiative with the goal of bringing more programs to parks across the city, the release stated, ensuring that more children and caregivers can explore green spaces together.

Each event is designed around a neighborhood’s unique character, seasonal celebrations and local culture. In 2024, the conservancy said it connected with more than 7,500 youth through hands-on events and educational programs. According to the release, the hope is the Family Day series will broaden that impact further.

Upcoming Family days are scheduled for July 27 at Allegheny Observatory in Riverview Park and Aug. 10 in Schenley Plaza. For more information on 2025 Family Days activities, visit pittsburghparks.org/family-days.

The conservancy said in the release that Peoples is supporting the series.
