It should be a shorter week for roadwork with Friday’s July 4 holiday, but that doesn’t mean there won’t still be some disruptions. Here’s what to expect:
- West End Bridge – Steel repair work will cause a single-lane restriction on weeknights from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. beginning Monday and lasting until late July. Allison Park Contractors will do the work on the bridge that crosses the Ohio River in Pittsburgh between the West End and North Side.
- Parkway East – Retaining wall work will continue just outside the outbound Squirrel Hill Tunnel from 5 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Wednesday. The work is part of the $95.1 million project to replace the Commercial Street Bridge between the tunnel and the interchange. Detours will be posted.
- Route 28 – Work to install a warning system for drivers going the wrong way on Route 28 will shift to the shoulder of the northbound offramp at Blawnox this week. The work will occur from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Wednesday on the $4.8 million system between Anderson Street on Pittsburgh’s North Side and Harmar that is expected to open early next year.
- Interstate 79 – The highway will have single-lane restrictions in both directions between the Neville Island Bridge and the Route 51/Coraopolis/McKees Rocks interchange from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. starting Monday and lasting until Aug. 1. Crews will conduct seal compression and complete unfinished items in the $43.9 million improvement project in the area known as the “S bend” in Kennedy, Robinson and Neville.
- Parkway West – Shoulder restrictions will occur around the Interstate 79 interchange with the Parkway West from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Wednesday while crews install foundations for new light poles. Work will be done on the inbound and outbound ramps from the Parkway West to I-79 direction and on northbound Interstate 79 between the bridge over Campbells Run Road and the Crafton-Moon Run interchange. The $14.9 million project will improve a series of ramps and bridges on I-79 from the Parkway West-Pittsburgh interchange to about a half mile north of the Route 60 Moon Run/Crafton interchange.
