Lots of roadwork is scheduled this weekend and next week if the weather stays dry. Here’s the breakdown:
- Birmingham Bridge – The bridge will be reduced to one lane in each direction from 6 p.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Saturday while crews prepare for a crossover of traffic Saturday morning for the next phase of work to replace expansion dams on the bridge that crosses the Monongahela River between Pittsburgh’s South Side and Oakland. Traffic in both directions has been in the southbound lanes to the South Side since May and now will shift to the northbound lanes to Oakland so crews can work on the southbound lanes. Temporary bike lanes will remain open. The $4.1 million project should finish in September.
- Parkway East 1 – Rodi Road in Penn Hills will be closed from 9 p.m. Friday until 5 a.m. Monday for milling and paving between Maple Lane and Business Route 22. The work also will require closure of the outbound Parkway East exit to Rodi Road and the outbound on-ramp from Rodi to the Parkway East. The inbound ramp from Rodi to the Parkway East will be closed from 5 to 9 a.m. Saturday. The work is part of the $70.1 million project to improve the Parkway East between Churchill and Monroeville.
- Parkway East 2 – Bridge inspection will close one lane of traffic in each direction from 6 a.m. to noon Saturday between the Boulevard of the Allies and Second Avenue exits. All ramps will remain open.
Next week
- McKnight Road – Single-lane restrictions will be in place in both directions from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday as needed between Ross Municipal Drive in Ross and Venture Street on Pittsburgh’s North Side. Lindy Paving is finishing work on a $27 million project that paved the highway and made other improvements between Venture and Perrymont Drive in McCandless.
- Parkway East 1 – Work continues on the retaining wall just outside the outbound end of the Squirrel Hill Tunnel as part of the $95 million project to replace the Commercial Street Bridge. Work from 3 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday will close the right-hand lane and shoulder outbound between the tunnel and the Edgewood-Swissvale exit. The outbound on-ramp from Beechwood Boulevard on the other end of the tunnel also will be closed.
- Parkway East 2 – Bridge inspections will occur from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday and Tuesday outbound near the Churchill interchange.
- Old William Penn Highway – As part of the Parkway East improvement, crews will conduct bridge deck placement work on the I-376 structure over Old William Penn Highway, and so William Penn will be closed between Evergreen Drive and Duff Road from 9 p.m. Monday through noon Tuesday. A detour will be posted using Garden City and Laurel drives.
- Andy Warhol Bridge – The bridge that carries Seventh Street over the Allegheny River between Downtown Pittsburgh and the North Side will be closed from 6 a.m. Monday to 3 p.m. Friday this week and next week for routine inspection. Allegheny County will detour traffic using the nearly identical Robert Clemente or Rachel Carson bridges on either side of the Warhol Bridge.
- Camp Hollow Road – There will be a new traffic configuration on the West Mifflin road beginning Tuesday while crews finish work on a roundabout just north of Lebanon Church Road that is part of the construction of the Mon-Fayette Expressway. Northbound traffic will be pushed to the roundabout while southbound traffic from Lebanon Church Road remains the same. Southbound motorists from Camp Hollow who want to get on Lebanon School Road will have a 1-mile detour. Northbound traffic from Camp Hollow to Lebanon Manor Drive, Beverly Drive and Linda Lane will have to use a temporary road during construction. The roundabout will be finished the first week of August and open to northbound and southbound traffic.
