Road crews will take advantage of the cooler dry weather this weekend by scheduling a lot of roadwork. Here are the roads to avoid if you don’t want to sit in traffic:

  • Forbes Avenue – Traffic in Oakland will be disrupted the next two weekends for paving related to the installation of new bus stations for the Pittsburgh Regional Transit’s University Line. From 8 p.m. Friday to 5 p.m. Saturday, traffic will be reduced to one lane between Craft Avenue and Bigelow Boulevard for paving in three locations where crews have completed utility relocation and installed electrical service for four new stations. Paving will be done in the right curb lane, but the center lane also will be closed for construction equipment. Flaggers will help traffic move through the area, and all parking and stopping will be prohibited. Buses will serve all stops except Craft Avenue, access to side streets will remain available, and pedestrians will be able to use sidewalks and crosswalks. Next weekend, similar work will be done between Schenley Drive and Schenley Drive Extension around Schenley Plaza. The work is part of the $291 million University Line that will use exclusive lanes between Downtown Pittsburgh and Oakland to provide more reliable service when it is finished in 2027.
  • Parkway West 1 – The northbound ramp from Interstate 79 to the outbound Parkway West will be closed from 7 p.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Monday for pavement patching on the ramp and shoulder. Additionally, there will be a shoulder restriction on outbound Parkway West from 6 p.m. Friday to 7 a.m. Saturday while crews implement the ramp closure. This work is part of the $15 million project to restore the highway between the Parkway West Airport Pittsburgh interchange and about one-half mile north of the Route 60 Moon Run/Crafton interchange.
  • Parkway West 2 – Traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction between the Ridge Road and Interstate 79 interchanges from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday as crews place a latex overlay on the Parkway West bridge over Boyce Road. The work is part of a $12.6 million improvement project on that portion of the highway in Robinson and Collier.
  • Parkway West 3 – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation will continue weekday bridge-washing activities through Thursday in Findlay. The work, which will take place between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., will cause a single-lane restriction on the inbound ramp from the highway to the Moon exit.
  • Parkway East – The highway will be reduced to a single lane outbound between the Business Route 22 on-ramp and the Churchill exit from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday while crews repair the base of the road. It’s part of the $70.1 million project to upgrade the highway between Churchill and the Route 48 exit to Monroeville.
  • McKnight Road – Guild rail removal work will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday and Saturday between Houston Road and Old McKnight Road in Ross and McCandless, causing single-lane restrictions as needed. The work is part of the $27 million project to improve the highway between Venture Street on Pittsburgh’s North Side and Perrymont Road in McCandless.
  • Camp Hollow Road – A new traffic pattern will begin Saturday when motorists traveling south can begin using the new southbound roundabout from Lebanon Church Road to Camp Hollow in West Mifflin. Beverly Drive will be closed, but local traffic can get access by following the posted detour. Residential traffic heading south on Camp Hollow Road to Beverly Drive, Lebanon Manor and homes in between should turn right to use a temporary connector road to turn around just before Lebanon School Road and head north to Camp Hollow. All other northbound traffic will use the new roundabout. Southbound traffic will be able to turn left onto Lebanon School Road. This pattern should be in place for about two weeks. The work is part of the Pennsylvania Turnpike’s construction of the Mon-Fayette Expressway between Route 51 in Jefferson Hills and Route 837 in Duquesne.
  • McKeesport-Duquesne Bridge – The bridge will have alternating single-lane traffic from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. beginning Friday and continuing on weekdays through mid-August for bridge inspection.
  • West Carson Street – Crews will be removing vegetation and trimming trees Saturday on Route 51 (West Carson Street) between the West End Circle and the West Busway from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.  The work will close the circle and all ramps that run under it and there will be alternating single-lane restrictions on West Carson. Ramp traffic will be detoured.
