This week’s roadwork changes are concentrated on the Parkway East, which is involved in several projects. Here’s the breakdown:
- Parkway East 1 – The highway will have overnight restrictions between Oakland and Squirrel Hill until mid-August while crews add a high-friction surface treatment to the highway to prevent skidding and hydroplaning where the roadway has been worn smooth because drivers do a lot of braking. Beginning Monday, drivers will face single- and double-lane restrictions from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. on weeknights and 6 p.m. to noon on weekends. Inbound restrictions will be from the Squirrel Hill-Homestead interchange to the Oakland exit and outbound from Forbes Avenue-Oakland exit to the Squirrel Hill-Homestead interchange.
- Parkway East 2 – The highway will close the inbound exit ramp to the Boulevard of the Allies beginning at 9 p.m. Monday to 5 a.m. the next day this week through Friday morning. The closure will allow crews to paint the substructure of the ramp. Detours will be posted.
- Parkway East 3 – The inbound exit ramp at Glenwood will be closed from 9 p.m. Monday trough 5 a.m. Tuesday to allow crews to make repairs to the concrete deck, approach slabs and asphalt, among other things. Detours will be posted.
- Parkway East 4 – Work will continue to build a retaining wall just outside the outbound end of the Squirrel Hill Tunnel from 3 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday, resulting in the shoulder and curb lane being closed between the end of the tunnel and the Edgewood-Swissvale exit. The Beechwood Boulevard ramp to the outbound highway also will be closed.
- Clemente Bridge – Allegheny County will close the bridge from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday this week and next for routine inspection. Detours will be posted.
- Cochran and Gilkeson Roads – The roads in Mt. Lebanon will have lane restrictions in four areas from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Wednesday while crews inspect manholes. The work will be done on Gilkeson Road near the intersection with Old Gilkeson Road, Cochran Road between Academy Avenue and Cedar Boulevard, Cochran Road near the intersection with Navato Place, and Cochran Road near the intersection with Serpentine Drive.
- Route 28 – Outbound traffic will face a single-lane restriction from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. at the 31st Street Bridge interchange. The restriction will allow crews to install conduit for the $4.8 million system to warn drivers if they are going in the wrong direction. The system is expected to be finished early next year.
