Dry weather the past few weeks has allowed road crews to make a lot of progress on projects, and that should continue this week. Here’s what to expect:
- Browns Hill Road – The roadway will have extensive concrete work, joint repairs, drainage improvements and curb replacement beginning Monday and lasting until December between Beechwood Boulevard-Hazelwood Avenue and the Homestead Grays Bridge. To allow the work, Allegheny County will close one of two inbound lanes from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekdays and one of two outbound lanes from 5 a.m. to 3 p.m. The work is scheduled so that it won’t interrupt rush-hour traffic for 40,000 drivers who use it every day. Weekend work may be added later in the project.
- West Carson Street – Crews will close ramps that carry the street on Pittsburgh’s South Side under the West End Circle to install fiber optic cable from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. on weeknights beginning Monday and lasting until early September. Detours will be posted.
- Interstate 79 – The northbound ramp from I-79 to the outbound Parkway West will close from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday through Wednesday for joint cleaning and sealing of the ramp and shoulder. A detour will be posted. The work is part of the $15 million project to improve the highway from the Parkway West-Pittsburgh interchange to about a half mile north of Airport Route 60-Moon Run/Crafton interchange.
- Route 28 – A single-lane restriction will be in place from 7 p.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday this week at the 31st Street Bridge interchange so crews can install conduit for the system to warn drivers going the wrong way on the highway. There also will be shoulder restrictions from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday for additional work on the warning system. On Monday and Tuesday, the work will be on the northbound Route 28 off-ramp to Fox Chapel Road/Waterworks Drive/Freeport Road and Tuesday through Friday on the northbound off-ramp to Delafield Avenue. The system should be in operation early next year.
- East Carson Street – The highway on Pittsburgh’s South Side will have lane restrictions from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday through Thursday while crews conduct tie-in work for Pittsburgh Regional Transit’s improvements to the Mount Washington Transit Tunnel and the South Busway.
- Washington Pike – Single-lane restrictions will occur in Collier on weekdays as needed in both directions of the highway between the Interstate 79 interchange and Mayer Street beginning Monday and lasting until late August. Crews will work from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. to install signs, mark the pavement with safety instructions for drivers and improve drainage. The work is part of a $5.6 million project to improve the Washington Pike intersection with Vanadium Road.
- McKees Rocks Bridge – The bridge will have an eastbound lane restriction this week from Route 51 toward Route 65 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Flaggers will help to move traffic and have pedestrians use sidewalks on the west side of the bridge. Traffic will not have a restriction on the other side of the bridge. The work is part of a $38.6 million upgrade of the bridge.
- Route 65 – Crews will restore the roadway between Fisk Avenue and South Ohio Street from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday in Avalon. Single-lane restrictions will be in place in both directions during the work.
- Hulton Bridge – Lane restrictions will occur in both directions from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday for inspection of the bridge across the Allegheny River between Oakmont and Harmar.
- Rochester Road – Flaggers will control single-lane alternating traffic between Reis Run Road/Sewickley Oakmont Road and Nocklyn Drive in Ross from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on weekdays through mid-November beginning on Monday. That will allow crews to finish work on a $1.1 million project to replace a culvert. The culvert is expected to reopen next weekend, but crews still have to complete stream remediation work, road improvements and various punch-list items.
- McKnight Road – Single-lane restrictions will continue as needed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday between Venture Street on Pittsburgh’s North Side and Perrymont Road in Pittsburgh while crews finish remaining items on a $27 million improvement project on the highway.
