Pennsylvania Resources Council will host two southwestern Pennsylvania hard-to-recycle collection events to enable residents to recycle responsibly a wide variety of items not accepted in curbside collections such as e-waste, tires and small Freon appliances.
These events, held in partnership with the Allegheny County Health Department, will take place at Settlers Cabin Park’s Wave Pool in Robinson on Sept. 27 and Northgate High School in Bellevue on Oct. 18, both from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. The second event is sponsored by the Quaker Valley Council of Governments.
Fees will be charged to recycle materials, according to a news release. For $5 per car, individuals can drop off unlimited cell- or home phones, computer towers and peripheral equipment (keyboards, laptops, mice, etc.), expanded polystyrene packaging material, microwave ovens and video game consoles/DVD players. A per-item fee covers televisions and computer monitors, printers, fluorescent tubes, small Freon appliances and tires with and without rims.
A complete fee structure is available on the PRC website.
Participants must register in advance on the site or by calling 412-488-7490. Payment is accepted via cash, credit card or check.
Drivers can place materials to be recycled in vehicle trunks or truck beds to receive optimal service, according to the PRC website. The nonprofit asks participants to arrive five to 10 minutes prior to their allotted collection times. All participants who have a registered time slot are guaranteed the opportunity to turn over their materials. Those who are late will be processed when an open spot becomes available, the website states.
The 2025 PRC hard-to-recycle collection campaign is sponsored by the Allegheny County Health Department, Allegheny County Parks Department, Colcom Foundation, Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection, 11 Cares, Pennsylvania American Water, Quaker Valley Council of Governments, Styropek, 90.5 WESA and 91.3 WYEP.
Settlers Cabin Park is located at 635 Ridge Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15205, and Northgate High School is at 589 Union Ave., Pittsburgh, PA 15202.
