There will be limited changes in road projects this weekend, but one is a major one on Interstate 79. Here’s what’s scheduled:
- Interstate 79 – Traffic patterns will change in Franklin Park and Marshall this weekend as part of the $46.5 million project to reconstruct the interchange with Route 910 at the Wexford exit. Crews will begin painting lines at 7 p.m. Saturday and expect to finish by 9 a.m. Sunday, when traffic will be reduced to one lane with shoulder closures from just north of the Interstate 79 split with Interstate 279 to Mingo Road, and the northbound off-ramps at Route 910 interchange at Wexford will have traffic shifted onto the shoulders. All northbound traffic on the highway will be shifted to the left. These restrictions will last through 2026.
- Parkway East 1 – The highway will be reduced to one lane outbound between the Squirrel Hill Tunnel and the Edgewood-Swissvale exit from 9 p.m. Sunday to 5 a.m. Monday. The right lane and shoulder will be closed while crews do preparation work for construction of the new Commercial Street Bridge. Workers are building a replacement bridge in Frick Park adjacent to the current bridge, which will be demolished next July and the new bridge will be slid into place. The highway will be closed for 25 days for demolition and placement of the new structure.
- Parkway East 2 – Crews will be removing overhang brackets from the Birmingham Bridge above the highway from 6 a.m. to noon Saturday. The work will result in a single-lane restriction on the highway.
- Boulevard of the Allies – Inspection activities will cause a single-lane restriction outbound on the boulevard near the Birmingham Bridge 6 a.m. to noon Saturday and Sunday.
