Riders who use the Martin Luther King Jr. East Busway can expect delays of up to 15 minutes during the day Saturday and Sunday because a section of the busway will be closed.

The busway will be closed from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday from East Liberty Station to the busway ramp at Neville Street. The closure will allow crews to complete a window-washing project at the UPMC Assembly Building on Centre Avenue.

Because of the closure, buses will be detoured onto city streets, which means the Negley Station will be closed. Instead, riders will be able to get on or off buses on Ellsworth Avenue at Negley Avenue.

Other changes to current road projects or new projects this weekend include:

  • Interstate 79 1 – The southbound side of the highway will be reduced to one lane on the Neville Island Bridge from 7 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday. Crews for Lindy Paving will be patching concrete during that time as part of the $43.9 million “S bend” project in Robinson, Neville Township and Glenfield.
  • Interstate 79 2 – Areas in Robinson and Kennedy will have single-lane restrictions from 7 p.m. Friday to 11 a.m. Saturday so crews can replace bridge seals. The work will occur on the bridge carrying northbound traffic over the Route 60 Moon Run/Crafton exit and on the southbound bridge over Campbells Run Road, just south of the Parkway West/Airport/Beaver off-ramp.
  • Interstate 79 3 – Traffic will be shifted from 6 p.m. Friday to 7 a.m. Saturday on the ramp that carries traffic from southbound I-79 to outbound Parkway West for line painting. The ramp will remain open during the work, which is part of the $12.6 million project to improve the Parkway West between the Ridge Road interchange and I-79.
  • Camp Hollow Road – The road will close Friday between the intersection with Phillip Murray Road and the intersection with New England Road in West Mifflin. The closure will last 48 days so crews can place steel structures for future bridges as part of the Pennsylvania Turnpike’s construction of the Mon-Fayette Expressway. The entrance to U.S. Steel’s Irvin Works will not be affected. Detours will be posted.
  • Parkway East 1 – The outbound right lane and shoulder will be closed from 2 a.m. to noon Saturday between the Squirrel Hill Tunnel and the Edgewood-Swissvale exit. Crews will be paving the roadway and shoulder as part of the $95 million project to replace the Commercial Street Bridge just before the inbound Squirrel Hill Tunnel.
  • Parkway East 2 – Traffic will be restricted to one inbound lane from 6 a.m. to noon Saturday between the Squirrel Hill-Homestead and Oakland interchanges while inspectors examine the inbound Frazier Street Bridge.
