There seem to be fewer traffic changes than usual this weekend. Here’s what to expect:
- Parkway East – More beams for the new Commercial Street Bridge along the Parkway East will be delivered Friday, causing traffic disruptions near the outbound Squirrel Hill Tunnel. Beams will be delivered between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. with the exact time determined by traffic along the delivery route. Trucks carrying the beams will travel inbound from Interstate 79 on the Parkway West to the outbound Parkway East, where they will pull off the road on the left into a plaza on the outbound end of the tunnel. Outbound traffic will be stopped intermittently for 15 minutes or less to move the trucks from the plaza to the work area on the right side of the highway. Crews are building the $95 million replacement bridge in Frick Park under and next to the existing bridge. Next summer, the old bridge will be demolished and the new one will be slid into place.
- Freeport Road – The road will have single-lane restrictions in Aspinwall from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday between the Highland Park Bridge and Delafield Avenue. A contractor for Peoples Gas will be replacing a gas line. Flaggers will help traffic move through the area. Additional work is expected Oct. 25.
