Pennsylvania Resources Council’s final 2025 hard-to-recycle collection campaign will take place on Saturday, Nov. 1, at PPG Paints Arena, Uptown.
The drive-thru event provides residents with an opportunity to safely dispose of a wide variety of items, including televisions, computers, other e-waste, tires and small Freon appliances, according to a PRC news release.
PPG and the Pittsburgh Penguins are partners in the collection that will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Participants must register online in advance or by calling 412-488-7490.
“PRC provides residents with numerous options to conveniently and cost-effectively dispose of a wide variety of materials not accepted in curbside pickup,” PRC Collection Events Manager Joshua Schuneman said in the release. “It’s important to divert these materials from landfills since many contain toxic elements that can leach into our waterways or introduce dangerous toxic chemicals into our environment, while others contain valuable recyclable resources.”
For a $5 participant fee, individuals can drop off unlimited cell/home phones, computer towers and peripheral equipment (keyboards, laptops, mice, etc.), expanded polystyrene packaging material, microwave ovens, and video game consoles/DVD players.
For an additional fee, individuals can recycle televisions and computer monitors, printers, fluorescent tubes, small Freon appliances and tires (with and without rims). The complete fee structure is available online.
When preparing to attend this event, PRC staff wants participants to pack all materials in their car trunks or truck beds. Once they arrive at the arena, they can stay in their vehicles while the contractor unloads the materials.
“PRC is pleased to partner with PPG and Pittsburgh Penguins for a fifth year to host a collection event in the city of Pittsburgh,” said Schuneman. “We applaud their commitment to promoting sustainable practices that protect our environment.”
