The traffic pattern on Business Route 22 in Wilkins and Monroeville will change Saturday as part of the ongoing $23.84 million improvement project on the busiest commercial stretch in the eastern suburbs.

The Hall Station Bridge between Home Depot and Kohl’s will be reduced to one lane in each direction through mid-November beginning at 12:01 a.m. The 1,127-foot bridge crosses above Thompson Run Road and a Union Railroad railyard.

During work to improve the structure and surface of the bridge, Pennsylvania Department of Transportation contractor Golden Triangle Construction also will close the sidewalks on the bridge. A shuttle bus will operate at least every 30 minutes between 6 a.m. and 10 p.m. daily with stops at the intersection of Business Route 22 and Home Depot and Business Route 22 and Sam’s Club Drive.

This bridge work is the latest in a series of restrictions as crews improve the corridor from the Parkway East exit ramp at Wilkins to Route 48/Mosside Boulevard in Monroeville over the next two construction seasons. The work will include milling and surfacing, base repairs, curb and sidewalk upgrades, drainage work, guide rail replacement and installation of new signs and pavement markings.

Next year, the work will require the full closure of the entrance ramp to Monroeville Mall.

About 25,000 motorists use the highway every day.
